SOME INFORMATION OF iPHONE

After few month wait, the iPhone has finally launched in the US but has it been worth the wait? Pocket-lint went State side to try it out.

Having lived with the phone for the weekend there is no denying the fact that it's large and minimalist at the same time. The new mobile phone from Apple is, it has to be said, a thing of beauty. Apple has created a device that many will lust after.

Like Motorola with the RAZR, there is no doubt that this phone will change the industry's approach to how users interact with their mobile for the better.

So where is the catch? Has it been worth the wait for the Americans and what about us Brits with still another 4 months to go? Well yes and no. For every two good elements to the phone there are plenty of cons.

Going for it is that large crisp bright touchscreen, the touch sensitive controls including zooming into pictures with just two fingers, the 4GB or 8GB hard drive for your MP3 tracks and movies, Coverflow application, the inclusion of a digital camera, the ability to access voice messages out of sequence, the Wi-Fi connectivity and of course the software interaction including YouTube, Google Maps and Apple's Safari internet browser.

But then there is the bad; no 3G connectivity, no video mode for the digital camera, no zoom for the digital camera, no flash for the digital camera, Bluetooth only works with headsets rather than allowing file transfer, there is no removable memory, the headphone jack has been recessed into the device meaning your regular headphones are unlikely to fit, there is no video out even with a third party docking station, no voice recording, no instant message application, no support for custom ringtones, no flash or java support, no support for third party applications beyond the web browser, no hard QWERTY keyboard, it doesn't work with the 64-bit version of Windows, the price is very expensive and finally the fact that it's all been done before.

So how does it compare to other handsets on the market?

Apple iPhone 3GS 32GB

Apple’s iPhone is the most esteemed phone in years. The ability to connect to faster 3G internet access has been brought by the iPhone 3G. Apple has now released the new iPhone 3GS which is one of the best selling mobile phone Deals . It is better than the earlier versions of Apple’s iPhone.

Size and Weight :
It is a very slim and sexy figure with 4.5 inches (115.2 mm) height, 2.31 inches (58.6 mm) width, 0.37 inch (9.3 mm) depth & 4.8 ounces (137 grams) weight.

Network and connectivity:
The Apple iPhone 3gs has released with GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz), UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz), 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi (802.11n 2.4GHz only), Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR wireless technology. With the iPhone 3GS, Apple solidifies its leadership position in a crowded smartphone landscape. The 3GS is like the iPhone 3G, but faster. It also supports 3G network - 850/1900MHz: M4, T4 ; 2G network - 850MHz: M3, T3 ; 2G network - 1900MHz: M2, T3.

Memory and Display:
The iPhone 3GS has the same 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display as its ancestor. The display still looks beautiful, displaying images at 320-by-480-pixel resolution. But these images are a bit "warmer"--they don't have quite the intensity that they do on the iPhone 3G. It also has 960-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 ppi, 800:1 contrast ratio (typical), 500 cd/m2 max brightness (typical), Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating on front and back and support for display of multiple languages and characters simultaneously. The iPhone 3GS will feature 256MB of RAM and a whooping 600 MHz processor. Previous versions of the iPhones that came to market included 128MB of RAM and a 412MHz processor. The added RAM alone will make a huge disparity in speed and should allow larger applications run on the device. All new Apple iPhone 3GS 32GB comes in the memory size up to 32GB. This is twice as large as the previous iPhone 3G models.

Camera and Video:
Beyond the performance boost up, the iPhone 3GS features a notably enhanced imaging experience that ranks high among the hardware upgrades built into the iPhone 3GS handset. The camera jumps from 2 to 3 megapixels, a greet if moderate increase that makes the phone's camera somewhat more feasible for on-the-go snaps. And the camera now includes a video mode--finally. The camera app opened and was ready to shoot with just a 3-second delay. 3 mega-pixel camera with auto focus, auto white balance, and auto exposure. Doubles as a VGA video recorder at 30fps w/ audio. Take beautiful, complete photos with the new 5-megapixel camera with built-in LED flash.

Entertainment Features :
A pair of stray features have been crammed into the iPhone 3GS, and while they may seem small they're sure to find their fans. The newly included compass is handy for location-based and mapping applications. The compass has characteristic, easy-to-read graphics, and it allows applications to orient to your current position. For example, the Maps app will reorient based on your directional heading. Its digital audio player supports AAC (8 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Store), HE-AAC, MP3 (8 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, 4, Audible Enhanced Audio, AAX, and AAX+), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV. And video formats supports H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format. Dress up your iPhone 4 with a Bumper. Choose one of six colors — white, black, blue, green, orange, or pink and slip it around the edge of your iPhone 4. With metal buttons for volume and power, two-tone colors, and a combination of rubber and molded plastic, Bumpers add a stroke of style to any iPhone 4.

The iPhone 3GS is definitely a step on from the iPhone 3G. Everything is faster, the camera is extensively improved, and the video shooting is very well done. If you want an iPhone and aren't weighed down by a long existing O2 contract, it's the one to go for. However, if you have the iPhone 3G kitted out with the new iPhone 3.0 software, we may have a preference to wait and see what 2010 brings.

That sounds like a small upgrade - few people have complained that the older model is a slowcoach but the benefits can most clearly be seen in the way your apps boot up faster and run more smoothly.
