O2 XDA Atom

The O2 Xda brand is a range of O2-branded Windows Mobile PDA phones, produced by multiple manufacturers (mainly HTC, Quanta and Erima). The "X" represents convergence of voice and information/data within one product; the "da" stands for "digital assistant", as in PDA.Compact, lightweight and aesthetically pleasing to the eye, the Xda Atom is a true complement to your distinctive sense of style.

Size and weight:
It measures & weighs of 102 x 58 x 18.5 mm & 140 g.

Network and connectivity:
If you can't connect to something with the Xda Atom, you're really not trying. For a start, it's a tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE (GSM900/1800/1900) phone. Moving beyond simple mobile telephony, it's also Bluetooth capable and Wi-Fi capable, albeit only to 802.11b speeds. For the true relics amongst us, it's even IrDA compatible, although we're not sure anyone's using infrared to send anything via mobile in this day and age. There's an obvious battery hit to take into consideration for each and every one of these technology inclusions, they're still good to have as individual connection options.

Memory and Display:
It has a internal memory of 64 MB RAM, 128 MB ROM & the card slot type miniSD. Physical features are pretty much as per O2's standard take on smartphones, which means that you've got a small five way selector at the base of the phone. The Atom's display is a 2.7" TFT LCD touchscreen with a top resolution of 240 x 320 pixels.

Camera and Video:
It packs a 2-megapixel external camera (along with a front-mounted VGA model for video calls). The camera Preview mirror for self portrait White LED strobe flash Support still image and video capture.
Entertainment Features:
The media player of this handset supports MP3/AAC/AAC+/WMA/OGG/AMR, WMV/MP4. It also supports Pocket Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF viewer). It also supports Windows Media® Player 10 with Equalizer controls. On the software side, O2 provides a bevy of its own applications. Many of these are still business-centric, but on the "fun" side is O2 MediaPlus. MediaPlus is a catch-all wrapper for the Atom Life's multimedia prowess, covering your photo, video and musical collections, as well as activating the radio. Operating System Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 with Messaging & Security Feature Pack (MSFP). The FM Radio Receiver Sanyo LV24020LP (ENA0070).

On the application front, the Atom Life shone, thanks no doubt to the improved processor running the whole show. We rarely had to wait for applications to start up, even when really pushing the phone with heavy tasks. This does make the Atom Life a good choice for exactly the market it's not aiming at -- business types who need large files open and will really test the phone's productivity mettle, rather than its fun aspects.
