Sony Ericsson Hazel

Sony Ericsson Hazel is the newest additions to the company's GreenHeart portfolio. The phone provides consumers with an expanded range of product to make an educated green choice without compromising on design and functionality. The Sony Ericsson Hazel offers consumers a green choice without compromising on features or fun. The Hazel also gives consumers a better voice quality experience, with Noise Shield, Clear Voice and Intelligent Volume Adaptation. The phone offers an easy-to-use social networking experience featuring the Widget Manager application, which allows users access to their social networking page via the stand-by screen and quickly switch between different social networks.

Size and Weight :
The design of the Hazel is smooth with a curved effect, which gives the result of the phone curving round from earpiece to microphone to fit the contours of your face when the phone is opened. Measuring in at 102 x 49 x 16mm, the Hazel weighs 120g, which is the upper range of an acceptable weight for a modern mobile device.

Network and connectivity:
The new Sony Ericsson Hazel supports 2G Network (GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900), 3G Network (HSDPA 900 / 2100), HSDPA 2100. The connectivity feature of this mobile are GPRS (Class 10, 32 - 48 kbps), EDGE (Class 10, 236.8 kbps), WLAN Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g, DLNA), Bluetooth (v2.1 with A2DP), USB USB v2.0.

Camera and Video:
The Sony Ericsson Hazel is equipped with a 5 megapixel camera, which is capable of taking pictures at a maximum resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. The camera has plenty of features to offer that include flash, autofocus, face detection, smile shutter, macro mode, white balance, spot metering, Geotagging, auto rotating, and effects. The image quality is at its best from one can expect from 5MP camera. The photos have plenty of colors, with sufficient brightness and sharpness. There is a front facing camera to assist video calling. You can also record video on this phone and we have to admit it does decent job. It can shoot VGA video at 30 fps. Flash also works in the video mode too. On the whole the video quality is quite good.

Memory and Display:
Internal memory on the phone is set at 319MB, whilst the memory can be expanded with memory cards up to 16GB in size. It is good to see Sony Ericsson slowly moving their devices over to the more popular MicroSD cards, too. MicroSD cards tend to be cheaper than the M2 cards they used in the past, and should mean it is easier to transfer content from one device to another. The device has a moderately sized screen, measuring 2.6 inches across, with a resolution of 240 x 320. The TFT Touchscreen display supports up to 16 million colours, and the screen is covered by a scratch resistant surface, which helps avoid minor scratches.

Entertainment Features:
The music player in the Hazel is the new Walkman version. The multimedia player supports plenty of audio files such as WAV, MP3, M4A, eAAC+, WMA and etc. Stereo widening and Megabass equalizer preset are also onboard. Autorotation is also possible in the player and it can be run in back ground. It also offers various background themes. We missed a 3.5mm audio jack port on this, so you won’t be able to use your favorite headphones unless you get adapter. There is no shake control. The music player is also features SenseMe that automatically generates the playlists depending upon your mood and TrackID that filters the songs based on the Album, Artist or Genre. The audio quality is excellent with crisp sound and proper bass. The Hazel is comes with a Media centre where it brings all your photos, videos, movies and music at one place. FM Radio with 20 stations and RDS support is also onboard. The video player interface is simple and convenient to operate. It allows fast-forwarding and fast-rewinding. There is no XviD and DivX support. MediaGo desktop software transfers any video from a computer to phone in compatible format and appropriate format. It also has dedicated Youtube app. The image gallery is same as that of other Sony Ericsson phones and fairly attractive. It is nicely integrated with Geotagging.

In total, the Sony Ericsson Hazel is a top class, high feature product, that shows once and for all that eco friendly can also be hi-tec.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness

Sony Ericsson announced the full specifications of the XPERIA Pureness handset, their first go at the high-end all-about-design devices market. Coming with a simplistic design and the typical for the class beautiful craftsmanship, feature-wise the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Pureness is mostly a one-trick pony. But, oh my, what a trick it is - the XPERIA Pureness is the first mobile phone with a see-through display.

Size and Weight :
Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness will measure 102.0 x 43.0 x 13.0 mm, (4.0 x 1.7 x 0.5) inches and will weigh only 70 grams.

Network and connectivity:
Sony Ericsson XPERIA Pureness works with GSM and UMTS networks of 2G and 3G technology. The quad-band GSM radio will give it worldwide roaming capabilities, while the 3G with HSPA support will deliver the high-speeds needed for the NetFront web browser (yes, there is one, even though it's grayscale only). Sony Ericsson has had to use miniaturisation techniques to fit the rest of the tech into the handset. Not that there is much on offer here. You get HSPDA and Bluetooth, which you can use with the bundled HBH-IS800 Bluetooth headset, but you don't get Wi-Fi or GPS. It also supports GPRS (Class 10), EDGE (Class 10), HSDPA, HSUPA, Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP, USB.

Memory and Display:
It has Unlimited entries: with multiple contact storage entries, 30 (dialed, received, & missed calls), Internal memory: 88 MB. The Pureness--which is the world's first mobile phone with a transparent liquid crystal LCD screen--is on sale. The pureness features an opaque black keypad and a contrasting 1.8” display, which is almost completely transparent thanks to its glass blacking. Such simplicity seems a little at odds with the screen. It’s opaque when the phone is lying dormant, but becomes completely clear when powered up – much like the effect a de-icer has on a frosty car window.

Entertainment Features:
The music player is rather nice, using the same friendly user interface as other Sony Ericsson handsets. Its easy to manage and use your playlists, and you can sync with your media library. The bundled S800 Bluetooth headphones provide great sound, rich and full with good bass and treble. You can do some slight noise adjustment with MegaBass and stereo options, and you also get track recognition service TrackID, which is always good. Email works better, offering push-email support for accounts including Microsoft Exchange, Hotmail and Gmail. It's basic but functional – you can sync more than one account at a time, and managing your various accounts is straightforward.

Sony Ericsson W508 Walkman

Enjoy music the way you want it with the Sony-Ericsson W508 Walkman phone. Consumers can have the most interactive mobile experience as individual as they are, with clever technology such as Shake and Gesture control, SenseMe and TrackID, as well as one extra Style-Up cover with the new Sony Ericsson W508 Walkman phone. The Sony-Ericsson W508 also includes popular Walkman features such as SensMe, for matching your mood to the music and touch keys on top to play, stop and skip tracks.

Size and Weight :
The clamshell measures 93.5 x 50 x 14mm and weighs 98g (including battery).

Network and connectivity:
The Sony Ericsson W508 Walkman clamshell features the basic connectivity tools, but has also been gifted with the HSDPA 3.6Mbps technology, which greatly improves data transfers. When benchmarked, the phone attained outstanding speeds: 1233 Kbit/s download and 211 Kbit/s upload in 3.5G network. EDGE data transfers were a little bit lower than expected, but still reached speeds of 156 Kbit/s for download and 81 Kbit/s for upload services. The handset is also compatible with Bluetooth 2.0 with an A2DP technology and features a USB 2.0 connectivity. Applications like Google Maps have no real use until you get an external GPS receiver, but you will also need something like Wayfinder Navigator 7, so your device will really come in handy with localizations.

Camera and Video:
While the 3-megapixel camera is not one of the strong points of the clamshell, pictures taken with the clamshell are medium in quality, so you don't have to worry about it. Still, the camera lacks some features that would've improved the quality of the snapshots, such as the autofocus and flash. Besides the lack of auto-focus and flash, the clamshell also misses some advanced features, like image stabilization and macro mode. Still, users will be able to use the geo-tagging (CellID) and video-recording capabilities. The camera can record movies in the QVGA resolution at 15fps. The quality of the clips is very low, which means that one will be limited to getting pictures mostly. You can take pictures with a 3.2-megapixel camera that offers a 3.2x digital zoom. Among imaging features you can find Geo Tagging, Photo Fix, Picture Blogging as well as Photo Feeds.

Memory and Display:
The handset comes with a 100MB internal memory, but features a micro M2 memory slot card to expand the storage space up to 16 GB. It has been placed under the back cover of the phone, but it can be inserted without the need of powering off the device (hot-swappable). Moreover, it comes with a 1GB M2 memory card in the sales package. The W508 comes with a Monochromatic OLED screen that offers the resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and displays up to 262k colors. The screen measures 2.2 inches. The secondary, monochrome screen on the front part of the phone measures 1.1 inch and supports a 36x128-pixel resolution. Both displays are scratch-resistant, and the main screen's contrast and brightness are very good, so that you won't have problems when you're outdoors in the sunlight.

Entertainment Features:
As it has been expected, Sony Ericsson W508 is a complete music phone and features excellent music sound quality. The clamshell offers very good music quality, as it features the Walkman 3.0 music player and the famous MegaBass equalizer mode, thus making the sound pretty impressive. Besides the earlier mentioned MegaBass mode, users can take advantage of a few more equalizer modes. It supports almost all possible music file formats available on the market: MP3, AAC, AAC+, E-AAC+, WAV, WMA, M4A and MIDI. Furthermore, the music player is compatible with the Album art function and, thanks to the integrated accelerometer, it takes advantage of the Shake control feature. The latter enables users to go one track forward or backwards by shaking the phone forward or backwards. It is also possible to shuffle the playlist by simply shaking the phone both ways twice. Another new feature introduced by Sony Ericsson is called SensMe, which enables users to make their playlists according to their mood by simply selecting "Happy" or "Sad." The only drawback of the service is the fact that only the songs that are tagged by Sony Ericsson's Media Manager will be taken into consideration. If one wants to use this feature a lot, one will need to transfer all their files through the Sony Ericsson Media Manager application, which could take a while. The stereo earphones (HPM-64) that are coming in the sales package are more than decent and include a 3.5mm adapter, which means that you can even attach your own headphones in case you're not satisfied with these ones. The clamshell also includes an FM radio function with RDS, which can memorize up to 20 base stations. The reception and sound are also very good. Both music player and radio can be run in the background. The integrated video player can run movies in full screen, in landscape or portrait mode, thanks to the accelerometer. Overall, Sony Ericsson W508 features excellent sound quality levels and above-average multimedia features at a convenient price.

Even if Sony Ericsson W508 has a standard clamshell form, it can attract fans of the Walkman series through its slimness and price. The only thing I found annoying was the big size of the phone when you actually unfolded it and put it to your ear. Otherwise, I think W508 is a pretty decent clamshell, with nice multimedia features and a medium price.

Solve a big probleam

SIT for Problem Solving (PS) is used to tackle problems in a wide range of areas, including technical problems in high-tech and low-tech industries, production and manufacturing challenges, and problems in marketing, strategy, and process problems. If you want to solve a well-defined problem that is delaying your R&D efforts, diminishing your efficiency, or making your customers unhappy, SIT for PS can be a tremendous help. Here's the short version of how we do it: two SIT facilitators will typically spend several days with your organization, working with a team of 10-12 professionals from the relevant departments. They will help the group to apply the SIT tools and principles to solve the problem at hand. This effort will result in three main deliverables:
  1. A list of ideas that have passed preliminary filtering (several dozen);
  2. A small number of proposals for development;
  3. A preliminary action plan so that you can begin launching the new ideas right away.
We help you achieve all of this by following a set of clear goals and objectives, and working on a well-defined time table.
If you are looking for a truly innovative, non-trivial solution to a problem, SIT for Problem Solving can help. SIT for PS can be applied to a large variety of problems, including:
  1. Technical problems arising from the manufacturing or development process, from the process of turning ideas into products, and from costing.

  2. Click here to try
    to solve a riddle
  3. Marketing problems, such as increasing market share, competing with the industry leader, and differentiating your product or service from others'.
  4. Problems of strategy, management, and human resources.

What's Special about SIT's Approach to Problem Solving?

Most solutions to problems involve making either "Parametric" or "Concept" changes:
  1. Parametric Change involves modifying one component of a system - for example, building a stronger motor, increasing memory capacity, or decreasing customer service personnel.
  2. Concept Change involves completely replacing the current technology - for example, switching from film to digital photography or from internal combustion engines to fuel cells.
While both of these approaches can be extremely effective, each has significant drawbacks. Parametric Change modifications can often lead to successful new products, but they do not result in breakthrough innovation. Concept Changes, on the other hand, are largely innovative, but tend to require major investments of time and money.

Fortunately, there is another possible approach to problem solving. "Logical Change" solutions are in certain respects simpler than Parametric or Concept changes, yet are rarely employed.
  1. Logical Change involves, as the name suggests, changing something in the logic of the system - using a product's existing components, but changing the relationships among those components. In general terms this can mean, for instance, using the problem itself as the source of the solution, or recognizing that an apparently essential component of a system is actually no longer needed. The VW Beetle, which uses the air around the car to cool its motor, is an example of a Logical Change solution.
Even though Logical Change can yield excellent solutions, most problem solvers are more accustomed to using the two other, more intuitive approaches. The SIT Problem Solving methodology leads to Logical Change by applying two unique structural principles - "Closed World" and "Qualitative Change", a set of five thinking tools to achieve significant changes at a reasonable cost. For further material on SIT's approach to PS.

What You Can Expect

No matter what sort of problem you want to use SIT for PS to solve, the outcomes will look like this:
  1. You will definitely have found novel ways to think about the problem.
  2. You will most likely have discovered new directions in which to look for the problem's solution.
  3. You may very well solve the problem.

The Nokia N9 is meant to mark an important step in Nokia's evolution as a handset manufacturer. Starting with it, all N Series devices from the company would run under the MeeGo operating system, which resulted from the merger of Nokia's Maemo and Intel's Moblin platforms. The currently used Symbian OS should power the company's X and E Series (probably the C Series too) handsets, but flagship phones would land only with MeeGo on board. phone.

LG GT350

The follow-up to the popular Ks360 messaging phone, the LG GT350 improves all aspects of the previous handset while retaining the characteristically friendly design.Despite the similar looks, the GT350 has had a complete overhaul. The 3" 240 x 400 pixel panel is now a full touchscreen.

Specs: The LG GT350 is a QWERTY keyboard phone that directly replaces the popular KS360 model.

It retains a similar design and profile as the original and size and weight are pretty much the same. Despite the external similarities though, the GT350 is much more advanced. For a start, the large 3" display is now touchscreen and it's also 3G enabled too, making for much faster download & surfing speeds. It also now has that all important feature - an array of social networking applications with dedicated one key access, allowing you to go directly to your favorite sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Mail is also a strong point, with support for push email protocols and multiple accounts.

As you'd expect, it comes complete with multimedia player & an FM stereo radio and the camera is a relatively simple 3.15Mp affair.
